Rotherham Civic Heritage Walks
"Explore and Discover"
We are delighted to announce the continuation of our guided walks as part of the “Discovering World Class Rotherham” initiative.
Rotherham as a Minster Town has a lot to offer. Founded in the Middle Ages its name originated from old English “Homestead on the Rother”.
Throughout its history it has marked it presence through its people, events and places.
The stories need to be told so why not come along and meet our volunteer guides and explore our fanstastic past.
The walk will be at a gentle pace covering the main areas around the Town Centre. There will be some kerbs and uneven surfaces but the majority of the walk will be along pedestrianised walkways.

Guided Walks 2025
Guided Walks of our Minster Town are available every Sunday throughout the year from March until November 2025
Saturday guided walks are available on the last Saturday of the month. These special themed walks will be advertised throughout the year.

Discovering Rotherham Guided Walks start at Clifton Park Museum at the Roman Granary.
The Blue Plaque Trail Guided Walks start at the Town Hall
Reservations are highly recommended through Eventbrite
Bookings
We have a walk up and join approach to our walks but pre-booking
will secure your places on the chosen guided walk.
We do ask that if you cannot attend the booked walk
to cancel your place to enable others to join the group.

Virtual Guided Walk from the comfort of your home using either a smartphone or Home Computer (Speakers required).
Private Group Guided Walks
Rotherham District Civic Society are able to provide a bespoke private guided experience for Clubs, Group, Companies and Societies. Are you a Chairman, Treasure, Secretary, Event Organiser or wanting to organise a special event for your familly.
Many companies use a private guided tour as a team-building event or a staff night out in the early evening concluding by a dinner in the Town or nearby restuarant.
You can tailor the guided walk to suite your individual needs with the help of the society. You can decided on the length of the walk, the time and finishing point including the time, day or evening!
The cost for this special private walk is £40 for a group size up to 10 people.
Additional guest £4 per person.

Who We Are
We are an entirely voluntary organisation of people who live and work in Rotherham Borough and are driven by a deep care for its past, present and future.
The Society is steered by an Executive Committee which is elected at the annual AGM in June and brings together a wide range of skills and experience, from the wider community.

Donation £10
£10 Help the Society to continue to make our Minster Town a wondeful place to live, work and relax.
The Society recieves no formal funding and ALL donations help us to preserve our precious and historic environment, open spaces and to continue the work of our Blue Plaque Scheme.
You can also support the Society by becoming a Corporate or Ordinary Member of the Society.
We have a growing list of nominations for our Blue Blaque Scheme. Each Blue Plaque cost £700 to produce.
Your donation will enable us to make a real difference and continue to make Rotherham a place of destination.
